Thee Knight At Arms

This editorial captures the desolate stillness of the knight in La Belle Dame Sans Merci—alone, entranced, and wandering in the aftermath of enchantment. Inspired by Keats’ haunting imagery and Pre-Raphaelite depictions of faded chivalry, the visuals centre on themes of abandonment, illusion, and lost purpose. The styling draws from medieval silhouettes, softened and weather-worn, echoing the knight’s spectral presence in a barren, time-suspended landscape. With a palette of muted earth tones and natural decay, the editorial evokes a quiet unravelling, the lingering trace of a love spell, and a figure caught between memory and myth.

This editorial was selected as the cover story for Storehouse Issue 29: Folklore, the UK’s largest student-led magazine. Featured across an eight-page spread, Thee Knight-at-Arms stood out for its atmospheric storytelling and evocative visual language, aligning seamlessly with the issue’s exploration of myth and legend. The imagery offered a quiet, melancholic take on medieval folklore, reinterpreting Keats’ ballad through a contemporary lens while maintaining its timeless sense of enchantment and loss. The editorial’s inclusion as the cover feature highlights its emotional resonance and strong conceptual identity within the wider theme of the publication.
